Dr. John Baillie Named 2016 Veterinarian of the Year by the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association

The Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) recently named Dr. John Baillie of Cedar Pet Clinic Lake Elmo the 2016 Veterinarian of the Year. Dr. Baillie is the owner of the clinic and has also served as its medical director since the clinic opened in 1972. MVMA honored Dr. Baillie at its 119th annual meeting, which took place from February 4 to 6 at the Hilton Hotel in Minneapolis. According to Dan Tjornehoj, the executive director and CEO of MVMA, the award Dr. Baillie received is the most prestigious one the organization gives. Tjornehoj cited Dr. Baillie’s career accomplishments, dedication to the field of veterinary medicine, and willingness to always be of service to others when bestowing the award.

Dr. Baillie expressed feeling overwhelmed and grateful when receiving this high honor from MVMA. He also touched on his love for the profession and his desire for the more than 2,500 people in attendance to support and encourage young practitioners in their careers. His dedication and enthusiasm for the field of veterinary medicine has not diminished in a career that has spanned more than four decades. Dr. Baillie still loves coming to work every day at Cedar Pet Clinic.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972, Dr. Baillie established Cedar Pet Clinic the same year. In addition to running the practice, he also serves as a regular lecturer at his alma mater. Dr. Baillie’s past involvement with MVMA includes serving as its president and chair of the MVMA Foundation golf fundraiser.

Currently, Dr. Baillie serves on the organization’s Government Affairs Committee. This role has brought him to the state capitol to testify on behalf of the veterinary medicine industry. As a member of the MVMA Membership and Community Relations Committee, Dr. Baillie works to promote continuous growth and visibility for the organization. The joy of this position for Dr. Baillie is that he has the opportunity to mentor veterinary students and young professionals on a regular basis.

As the medical director of Cedar Pet Clinic, Dr. Baillie is fond of saying that we treat any animal that fits through the door. Whether you own a dog, cat, pocket pet, reptile, bird, or chicken, you can depend on Dr. Baillie and his staff to provide exceptional care.
