Canine Influenza update:

We have received a lot of calls in the last couple weeks regarding the Canine Influenza Virus. There has been reported two separate outbreaks in the United States of two different strains of influenza (East Coast and Midwest Chicago). The outbreak that is occurring in and around Chicago and Madison area has not been seen in North America before. At this time there has not been a confirmed case of the virus in Minnesota. It does, however, have us concerned it may soon travel to our area.

Cedar Pet Clinic does have the Canine Influenza virus vaccine; it is not for the current outbreak strain, but for the strain we have historically had in the United States. The hope is that we use it in at risk dogs to get cross protection against the current outbreak strain. At this time, we are only recommending it in dogs that will be traveling out of Minnesota. This may change if the outbreak continues into Minnesota.

Please call and talk to one of our trained staff if you have any other questions regarding Canine Influenza.
